1.Overview

Materials Science and Engineering Discipline of School of Materials and Energy is the Guangdong Province "211 Project" phase 3 Key Discipline, and Panfeng Key Discipline of Guangdong Province. The school offers postdoc positions for postdoctoral research, and 7 formal major disciplines, listed below, for graduate students.

  • First-level doctorate discipline: Materials Science and Engineering (including 4 second-level doctorate disciplines: Material Science, Materials Processing Engineering, Energy Materials and Engineering, Polymer Material and Engineering).

  • First-level discipline master disciplines: Materials Physics and Chemistry. Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics (including 6 second-level master disciplines: Engineering Thermophysics, Thermal Power Engineering, Power Machinery and Engineering, Fluid Machinery and Engineering, Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering, Chemical Process Equipment; and the Thermal Power Engineering discipline is the Special Key Discipline of Guangdong province).

The school provides recommendation for students with excellent academic performance for their master/doctor studies with the exemption of the graduate entrance examination. We also have 3 provincial-level joint-supervision bases for graduate studies.

We have 25 doctoral advisor and 112 master advisors, and there are 585 full-time graduate students, of whom 60 are doctoral candidates and 525 master candidates. Our programs provide valuable graduate training and research/design project experience sought after by government, industry, and R&D organizations. We annually publish more than 147 research papers which are ranked as the top 0.1% within two months since its publication, measured by ESI (Essential Science Indicators), and authorizes more than 80 invention patents. Extra curriculums and recreational activities are tailored to fit the needs of individual students, including “Renowned Teacher Auditorium” for academic seminars, “Pass the Flame” program for scientific technology and career planning, “Girls' Day” fraternity, varies sports events, volunteer activities, and graduate student union, etc. Our graduates have a 100% employment rate. Some of our alumni started their career in megacorporation such as Huawei, IBM, Siemens, some worked as civil servants in the government and researchers in public institutions, and nearly 15% furthered their study for doctoral degrees.
