To comprehensively improve the overall quality, work standards, and practical skills of freshmen leaders, the Student Work Assistant Committee of the School of Materials and Energy, Guangdong University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as the "Material and Energy Student Union Committee") held a training session on work standards for the new academic year at 19:00 on October 8 in Room 208 of Building 3. This meeting focused on the cultivation of student cadres and team building, mainly covering three aspects: communication and etiquette training for student work assistants, work regulations for on-duty shifts, and guidelines for photography and news writing. Cai Jili, the instructor of the Material and Energy Student Union Committee, attended this training session.

Communication and Etiquette Training

The Material and Energy Student Union Committee serves as the cradle for the growth of student work assistants from all grades. As an important backbone force among students in the school, members of the union adhere to the work philosophy of "ideological guidance, diligence and pragmatism, innovation and efficiency, service first," assisting various departments of the school in carrying out student work. During this training session, Zhang Qihan, the director of the union, conducted communication and etiquette training for all union members, hoping that every student would be courteous and well-mannered in their daily communication, demonstrating the good spiritual demeanor of student leaders.

Training on Work Regulations for On-Duty Shifts

As a student organization that serves the school in conducting student work, the Material and Energy Student Union Committee's on-duty shifts are governed by the principle of “sincerely serving students and assisting the school in managing student affairs”. Lin Shiya, student from the Union's Affairs Department, introduced the basic requirements, work content, and precautions for on-duty shifts in the office, hoping that the new officers of the union would have a proactive learning mindset, maintain self-discipline and self-reflection, master multiple office skills, and efficiently complete their on-duty tasks in the student affairs office. Following that, Chen Guo, student from the Academic Affairs Department, introduced the detailed procedures for various on-duty tasks, such as assisting in leave applications and cancellations, and precautions for issuing student notices.

Training on News Writing and Photography Standards

Images and words are crucial ways to showcase the appearance of student work. To further enhance the union members' ability to assist counselors in capturing and documenting student activities, Pei Mojunyuan, student from the Publicity Department of the Material and Energy Student Union Committee, shared the usage of cameras. Starting from such aspects as scene selection, composition standards, and etiquette, he imparted techniques for on-site shooting and post-processing of portraits. Wu Tairui, also from the Publicity Department, explained the textual specifications for writing news articles.

Finally, Liu Xinyu, the director of the Student Union Committee, shared her insights after participating in the "Torch" training program (Phase I)for student leaders. "As a member of the Student Union Committee, I feel deeply honored to be invited to speak as a representative of the new student leaders." She hoped that all members of the Student Union Committee would continue to uphold the good traditions of the committee in the new year, love their jobs, be dedicated to their duties, strengthen their sense of discipline, and further promote the spirit of serving their classmates.

The Student Affairs Office of the School is a place for counselors to conduct official business and discussions, and also serves as an important window for providing services to all students in the school. Through this on-duty training session, the assistants gained a deeper understanding of the requirements for on-duty shifts in the Student Affairs Office, clearly recognizing the responsibilities they should bear as student leaders and understanding the importance of standardized on-duty work. At the same time, all members expressed their commitment to strictly demanding themselves in the process of serving the teachers and students of the school, striving to exercise and improve themselves through practice, and playing a leading role. It is believed that with the joint efforts of all members of the Student Union Committee, it will surely become a capable assistant in the student management work of the school.
